A Holistic Approach to Farming

At Liveoak farm we consider ourselves stewards of the land and our family produces organic beef, chicken and eggs in an environmentally sustainable way.

Born and raised at Liveoak Farm in Lambton County, Robert Halliday has farming in his blood; his family has worked this land for a century, since 1917. In 2004 he and his wife Susan decided it was time for a change, they needed to better align their farming practices with their values. This is when they began the process of becoming organically certified. After abstaining from the use of the products used by conventional farmers for three years, the farm was officially certified organic in 2007.

Recently Robert and Susan's son, Christian, and his wife, Emily, decided to become more involved in the family business along with their three young boys. They're excited to be farming and sharing delicious, wholesome, organic food with the community. The older boys, 6 and 4, love their jobs of hand gathering eggs and cat hugging.

Today there are lots of challenges, including mounds of paperwork and weeds that aren't easily kept at bay, but the choice to become an organic farm was right; for the land, the animals and the people who consume the food produced on the farm.

At Liveoak Farm we don't think that putting food on your table and feeding yourself or your family should be so far removed from the earth that it comes in a truck across the continent sprayed with toxins to preserve or "enhance" its appearance. Preparing and eating food that has been grown in healthy, nutrient rich soil and harvested locally is a movement you can be a part of by supporting a local, organic family farm.
